Arte Público Press is the nation’s largest and most established publisher of contemporary and recovered literature by US Hispanic authors. Its imprint for children and young adults, Piñata Books, is dedicated to the authentic portrayal of the themes, languages, characters and customs of Hispanic culture in the United States. Books published under the imprint serve as a bridge from home to school to support family literacy and elementary school education. Based at the University of Houston, Arte Público Press, Piñata Books and the Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage project provide an extensive showcase for Hispanic literary arts and creativity.
Bloomsday publishes bold, beautifully crafted books by historically underrepresented writers, whose stories transform us and inspire us to act.
We follow three guiding principles: community, diversity, and connection. Our goal is to establish Houston as a model for community-centered, independent publishing, and therefore we choose local whenever possible. By centering diverse stories/storytellers, we cultivate authentic long-term relationships with authors by compensating them fairly, prioritizing transparency and craftsmanship. Guided by our sincere hunger for connection, we partner with like-minded organizations, which broadens the reach of all artists. We are passionate about innovating promotion and programming that both pushes the envelope outside of what’s been previously done, and reflects the uniqueness of our individual authors.
